Neuroscience research has confirmed that our various brain networks serve us in many ways. Much of what we refer to as personality is related to automatic scripts that have been reinforced over time. Jung had proposed a tremendous non-conscious world actively affecting everything we do and as it turns out, he was right. He also noted that we have mental resources available to us that we have to work hard to recognize and use. Jung warned about over-use, or one-sidedness, and how that could negatively affect well-being.
Psychological type gives us an easy way to identify and understand four windows of perception and four methods of evaluating experience. While the MBTI (and other four-letter code-based tools) give us a great working hypothesis about our automatic, innate responses, the Pearman is designed to look at how the whole engine gets used—how do Si, Ni, Se, Ne, Fi, Fe, Ti, and Te playout in an individual’s life and how can an individual develop greater flexibility to call on the kind of perception or judgment needed in a situation. To develop that facility you have to know about the access to all eight psychological type functions and effectively call on them through your Chief Brain Officer. Yes, you have a CBO. But to accesses it, you need to learn about the way it works.
